Recreation and swimming

During the summer, you can choose to swim in the sea or visit the Delfin Hotel's outdoor swimming pool.

Out of season, however, there are:

  • the Delfin Hotel's indoor pools, indoor pool of the Simonov zaliv Hotel Complex and  SPA Wellness  in the Mirta Hotel and on Belvedere
  • Indoor individual fitness or with a personal trainer
  • Outdoor tennis courts at the Simonov zaliv location
  • Birba I and Birba II, Simonov zaliv, Svetilnik playgrounds
  • Exterior sports fintess can be found along the Parenzana Walking and Cycling Trail  and at Livade
  • and they are many outdoor football / basketball courts

Beaches

Izola has 8 beaches spread over 5 km. Beaches are a perfect place to relax trough all year, lounging and soaking up the sun, strolling by the sea with the wind in your hair, or taking a moment to yourself with the sound of the waves. You can easily walk to the beach  Delfin and then Simonov zaliv along the seaside promenade from the town center or from the other side to the public beach of Svetilnik.

San Simon bay - your family-friendly spot, where you can rent kayaks, pedal boats, or SUP boards, with sandy bay, a volleyball court, a waterslide, and the remains of an ancient Roman villa in the nearby archaeological park with a beach library, open during opening hours in July and August.

Local excursions and attractions

The Wine Fountain – Marezige is a unique attraction where you can taste top-quality local wines, sit back, and enjoy the stunning view of the sea and the Istrian countryside

A trip to Tinjan, located between Dekani, Zgornje Škofije, and Osp. You can park in the parking lot near the parish church; from there, you’ll be guided by trail markers. From the summit, which is the penultimate point of the SPP, there’s a beautiful view of the Gulf of Trieste and the surrounding villages. At the summit stands the Church of St. Michael and a radio tower

The Ears of Istria, the mighty cliffs towering above the village of Sočerga, are a natural wonder of Slovenian Istria. They are characterized by their colorful overhangs and unique microclimate.  Many endangered birds, such as the rock partridge, rock pigeon, red swallow, and alpine swift, have found a home here. The area is part of the Natura 2000 network. Starting point: Črni Kal – toward the Sočerga border crossing. From the village of Sočerga, keep an eye out for the sign on the left pointing to the little church of St. Quiricus, which is the starting point of the hike. The best times to visit are spring and fall
